HOW IT ALL BEGAN
FROM A MARKET STALL
TO MELBOURNE'S FAVOURITE
In 1976, a small stall in the Queen Victoria Market was setup with one mission, to bring authentic European-style sausages to Australian families without compromising on quality, tradition, or flavour. Using traditional European recipes passed down through generations, we started making sausages the old fashioned way.
Five decades later, not much has changed. We still handcraft every bratwurst at our Epping facility. We still use premium Australian meat from suppliers we've trusted for years. And we still believe that the best food comes from patience, quality ingredients, and a whole lot of pride.
What started as a weekend market stall has grown into one of Melbourne's most loved food brands, now available at Queen Victoria Market, and soon on supermarket shelves across Australia.

OUR JOURNEY
1976
THE FIRST BRAT
Elizabeth opens the store at Queen Victoria Market, serving fresh, handcrafted food to the local community. She owns and runs the business for 8 years.
1990s
EUROPEAN FOODS
On December 1st, 1990, the Greco family takes over, renaming the stall European Foods. With a small grill and a strong focus on baking, they become known for their cakes, a go-to morning stop for market visitors.
At the time, the menu was simple: three bratwurst varieties (spicy, mild, and weisswurst) served with sauerkraut, chilli sauce, tomato sauce, and three mustards.
2020s
HITTING THE SHELVES
After a full renovation of our market stall, we entered 2020 with a fresh new look — just in time for COVID to hit. During lockdown, take-home packs were introduced, bringing the market-favourite bratwurst into customers' homes. Today, the range is stocked in local delis and major retailers across Australia.
1980s
DON & MARY’S ERA
Don and Mary take over the store, operating it for 14 years as Don & Mary’s Takeaway, building a loyal following within the market.
2000s–2010s
THE BRATWURST SHOP & CO
As demand shifted, the Greco family moved away from cakes and refocused on sausages, renaming the business The Bratwurst Shop, and in 2010 evolving into Bratwurst Shop & Co, the name and brand known today.
Since 2004, all sausages have been gluten free. What started as three varieties has grown into seven, with an ever-expanding range of condiments and toppings.
